As a young child we are told that Jesus “grew and became strong: he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him” (Luke 2:39). By the time he was twelve years old Luke tells us “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men” (Luke 2:52). Jesus is our perfect example. It is our destiny also to grow in stature and in favour with God and men. By the time Jesus started his ministry he was “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14), people who he came into contact with were blessed because this grace and truth transformed them. We are to flow in grace to others.

Jesus comes and displaces all else in me which is not of him. Luke 10:27 is a pivotal text, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind”. This is a total giving of ourselves, not partial but passionate and whole hearted.

Whatever we look at and focus on, we magnify. We become whatever we behold, so, it is important to ask ourselves, what are we looking at?

Our minds are a battleground that Satan uses to attack us so that a foothold can easily become a stronghold. In Luke chapter 4 Jesus countered Satan with the word of God when he was being tempted. The word is the “sword of the spirit” (Ephesians 6:17). The world has some good ideas but it is only what God says that counts. We are not to compromise what the word says. Spurgeon stated: “We shall not adjust our bible to the age but by God’s grace, adjust our age to the bible”. It is important for us to use our minds to read and meditate upon scripture.

We are also to serve God with our strength and soul. God is an emotional God. Peace and love which we feel are fruits of the spirit. It is crucial however that we do not rely upon our feelings. Loving God with all our hearts involves the cleansing of those hearts, purification, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). Ezekiel says, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh”. It is time for us to realise what we are giving our lives to, we want to be a people that bring our very best to God, our all.

Whatever we look at and focus on, we magnify. We become whatever we behold, so, it is important to ask ourselves, what are we looking at? We need to look in the direction we are going. Let us be so captivated by him and let our inner world be delighted in who he is.

God wants us to grow up and come into maturity. We are no longer to live as orphans, having an orphan mentality but to live as mature Christians. We are Gods children and we are loved and celebrated by our Heavenly Father.

God’s intention is for us to gain things from the body as well as him. The grace which is upon each of our lives spills out to others. It is a characteristic of mature people that they give as well as receive.

How do we come into the fullness of stature which is our inheritance in Christ? We cannot achieve it by using our human abilities or energy; only by Gods power can it be accomplished. Let us partner with him in this process of coming into what he intends us to be as mature sons. Ephesians 4:14 says, “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves and blown here and there by every word of teaching and the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming”.

Everything in our human bodies is connected to the head. The head orchestrates all of our functions, and so it is with Christ, he is the head, we are connected to him and everything we need for life is found in him. He gives us unlimited, extravagant resources if we ask. Let us ask for God’s grace, receive his love and be filled with his spirit, “May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all” (2 Corinthians 13:14). Hold fast to the head and receive everything that comes from him on a daily basis.

Not only are we connected to Jesus, the head but we are also connected to the body, “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head that is Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love as each part does its work” (Ephesians 4:15-16).

God’s intention is for us to gain things from the body as well as him. The grace which is upon each of our lives spills out to others. It is a characteristic of mature people that they give as well as receive.

Jesus experienced the angelic supernatural realm, it follows then that every other son is to experience that angelic realm as well. God is waiting to break into our lives with the supernatural. “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14). We are in the process of coming into wholeness and God wants to release the angelic to minister to us. Lord, open our eyes to the angelic realm. Gods plan is for heaven and earth to be completely one.

Let us look in the direction of our own unique, individual journey and press forward to our ultimate goal that is Jesus and press in to greater growth and spiritual maturity. “But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14).
