Hosting the Presence of God

We are believing for a move of God (Revival) that lasts. We are not looking for a river that fills during torrential rain and is a dry riverbed weeks later.

Many of us feel invigorated by a Sunday meeting or a Conference, only to feel dry again, just days or even hours later. This isn’t the way that Jesus lived.

And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him”. John 1:32 English Standard Version (ESV)

Consider these three words – ‘REMAINED ON HIM’. This was no momentary visitation but continual habitation. Why?

These are some of the keys to Habitation:

1) Togetherness – Jesus lived a life of communion.

Jesus lived in constant communion with his Father and Holy Spirit. His life was lived with the awareness of the ‘dove on his shoulder’, living a life that caused Holy Spirit to always be at home with him and in him.

His life with God was 24/7 and not a few hours, once a week. He practiced and enjoyed the Presence of God as a lifestyle.

His life with God overflowed to the people around him and he shared life with them daily rather than in a meeting for a few hours, once a week.

“If God inhabits our praise, then who inhabits our complaints”? – Bill Johnson

2) Praise – Jesus lived a life of praise.

The writer to the Hebrews quotes Psalm 22:22 attributing these words to Jesus:-

“I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” Hebrews 2:12 (ESV)

We are exhorted to do the same:-

Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!  Psalm 110:4

God is ENTHRONED and DWELLS in the praises of His people.

Yet you are holy,  enthroned on the praises of Israel. Psalm 22:3 (ESV)

The footnotes of Psalm 22:3  say “Or dwelling in the praises”

“If God inhabits our praise, then who inhabits our complaints”? – Bill Johnson

3) Thankfulness – Jesus gave thanks that His father was with him in all circumstances.

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)

We are not called to be unreal and in denial about the circumstances we face. They cannot be ignored but they cannot be our focus either.

When we come together to share life, to praise and to pray together, He is there and everything changes.

For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them. Matthew 18:20(ESV)
