Reflections: Keep Calm & Read A Psalm

A fresh way to encourage yourself in the Scriptures!

Keep Calm and Read a Psalm!

In a recent message, Sarah Kelly gave us 5 keys to encouraging ourselves in God:-

  1. Press Pause to be with Jesus
  2. Allow Holy Spirit to be your comfort
  3. Pray – Declare – Speak in Tongues – Worship
  4. Listen to what He wants to say to you
  5. Give Thanks – Cultivate a thankful heart

(If you haven’t heard Sarah’s message, why not listen to it online – ‘click here’ ).

King David did these 5 things and wrote the Psalms as he meditated on the goodness of God. Even in the most dire circumstances he changed from despair to overflowing praise.

David was a worshiper at heart! He prayed, declared, worshiped, listened and gave thanks.

The worship team at All Nations Church,  are reading 5 Psalms and 1 Chapter of Proverbs every day. In 31 days we will have read all 150 Psalms and the Book of Proverbs.

Why don’t you join us?

When the month is up – we will be blessed and begin again.

Take Psalm 23 as an example!

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

We can sing it, pray it or prophesy it over ourselves or others. Which ever way works for you, for example:

As a prayer:

“Thank you Father that you have pulled up a chair at your table, just for me. In the midst of all my trials and in even the presence of those who don’t like me or want me around, you give me a seat alongside you. I am astounded that your goodness follows and pursues me, not just one day but ALL the days of my life and that I will dwell in your house forever!  Lord you are AMAZING, Thank You”

As a prophecy:

“[Place your name here] I have prepared a table and pulled up a chair for you today and every day. I am there right in the midst of everything you are going through. It is a place for you to sit with me and be blessed. Everything you need is available to you and I keep pouring, even when your cup is full.  MY goodness [Place your name here], not just any old goodness,  but My goodness pursues you and surrounds you constantly. On top of all this, I have prepared a place for you to dwell with me eternally – You are so worth it [Place your name here], be blessed”

As you do this regularly, you will be blessed and encouraged!

(As a personal testimony since hearing this message from Andy, Gill and I have been doing this during our daily Bible readings and it has brought a fresh faith and power to our prayers).
