REFLECTIONS: Living In The Open Doors

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with me on my throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne”.Rev 3: 15-22.

There are two doors in our lives that are very important in our relationship with the Lord. When these two great big gold doors are open, I believe that you have access to heaven’s environment and that heaven has access to your environment to fulfill its agenda in you and the world around you. We pray, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”.

I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. – John 10:9

Think of yourself as one door and Jesus as the other door in the light of the words Jesus speaks in John 10:9, “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture” and John 14:16 where Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. Jesus is the door through which you and I can enjoy freedom of access to heaven’s environment. The lord has set that door to remain permanently open to you and me. Jesus expresses this truth when he speaks to the church in Philadelphia saying, “See, I have set before you an open door and no one can shut it, for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” (Rev 3:8). There is a life that Jesus wants you and me to experience and he is holding the door open to you to access that life that comes out of heaven’s environment. What does that look like for you?

In the same way, I believe that you too are a door that can be open to the lord for him to have access to you and all that he wants to do in earth’s environment through you. You are the one who has the keys to that door and whether it is open to the lord or shut is going to be entirely based on your choice. You can see this truth in what the Lord says to the church at Laodicea when he says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with me”. Unlike the first door that the lord opens and shuts, this second door is one that you open and shut. By your free will and choice you too are a door that can be open or closed to Jesus and my encouragement to you is be an open door to the Lord. Life in the open doors is a life of divine exchange where the lord is before you an open door to heaven’s environment and you are before him an open door to earth’s environment.

The enemy however does not want you to enjoy this life in the open doors and would want to crouch at your door. To Cain God said, “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” (Gen 4:7NIV). There are many things today that would want to interfere with your relationship with the Lord and get in the way of the open doors, therefore, submit to God resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4:7). You are the one in charge of your door so don’t let the enemy take advantage of you. The good news is that there is always help in the time of need. While Jesus gives you the choice what happens at your door he is also always available able and willing to come to your door and do things at your door to bring heaven’s agenda into your life and release you into from bondage if you find yourself in trouble.

The enemy sometimes can be overwhelming and we may find ourselves struggling because he has somehow managed to crouch at our door. This was the situation in Samaria when Benhadad king of Syria besieged the city of Samaria surrounding it with his army so that nothing could enter or leave the city through the city gates. There was so much suffering in that city that people resorted to eating bird’s droppings and mothers resorted to boiling their own babies for food. This is the kind of life that the enemy would want for you his intentions for our lives are never for our good. The Lord used leapers at the gate of Samaria to bring a turnaround for the people in the city (2 Kings 6: 24-30). God wants to use someone to bring a turnaround in your life and he wants to use you to bring a turnaround to someone else. If God could use the leapers in Samaria who were castaways and unwanted people he can use anyone so don’t disqualify yourself.

A certain donkey and its colt were tied to the door in Bethphage (Mark 11:1-9) when Jesus remembered them and sent two of his disciples to release them into their destiny to carry his presence into the city of Jerusalem. If Jesus could do this for a donkey and its colt, how much more do you suppose he could for you and your children to release you into the destiny that he has for you from before the foundations of the world?

There are opportunities in this season of your life which God wants you to step into. There are doors the lord has opened for you that no man can shut. He has a destiny for you, a purpose and function in his kingdom to bring you joy and fulfilment as you live in the open doors. All you need to do is make a conscious decision to step into his open door to access all that he has for you in him and to keep your door open to him and allow him the freedom of access to touch others through you.

The question is, what are some of the practical ways that you could be an open door for Jesus today? I tell you what:
Life groups in the church can make you an open door for the lord to touch someone else in the church the lord wants to touch through you.
203s is another way that you could be an open door to two or three others in the church the lord wants to touch through one to one interactions those small groups provide.
Jesus loves Leicestershire is an ongoing initiative of the churches in Leicester of which we at ANCL are a part. You could be an open door for the lord to reach the city of Leicester by simply being there on Humberstone Gate to stand side by side with other believers in the city to sing songs of praise and worship Jesus in the street while others involve in witnessing. Please consider being a part of this where you can. The next Jesus loves Leicester outreach on Humberstone Gate is on 9th September 2017.

Volunteering opportunities in the church also provide countless other ways that you could set yourself an open door before the lord. True riches in the lord’s eyes are not in how much money or earthly resources or possessions you have, but true riches and gold in the lord’s eyes is in how much the lord has been able to do for others through you. You are a golden door of opportunity. You can buy gold from the lord by allowing him to do his work in others through you. That is how you invest in your heavenly bank account and the one of the ways you become rich towards God. Be hot or cold God is happy with that but lukewarm is not recommended by the lord.

The Culture of Heaven’s Kingdom is a 9 month school stating in October 2017 to equip, impart and release you into living a kingdom lifestyle with teaching from Ian Rossol and Michelle Arthur. You will get insight into heaven’s culture and environment and develop in your ability to access the door that the lord has set before you to experience more of what heaven has in store for you.
