Reflections: Living Overshadowed & Surrounded

The Psalms were inspired by Holy Spirit thousands of years ago, in a different culture to ours and yet are as relevant today as the day they were written.

Psalms 91 & 46 are particularly precious and pertinent at this time:-

1, Living Overshadowed & Surrounded

Psalm 91:1
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

We are invited to dwell, to abide, overshadowed by His love!

Psalm 46:1
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.

We are totally immersed and surrounded by God Himself!

What a promise this is:-

When we make God our refuge, His strength becomes our strength!

(Why not take a moment right now to sing it, pray it, prophesy it?)

With all the fear and negativity in the media, we can choose to be overwhelmed by the circumstances or to be overwhelmed by God’s love.

Andy Topliss recently spoke about the benefits of reading 5 Psalms and 1 Chapter of Proverbs every day.
(If you haven’t heard Andy’s message ‘click here’ ).

It certainly bore fruit for Billy Graham:-

2, Responding to God’s Initiative

1 John 4:19
We love because he first loved us.

When we live Overshadowed and Surrounded, we learn to respond to Him – and not to fear.

From this place of peace, we can make His declarations over every circumstance we face.

Psalm 46:10 reminds us to:-
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”

From here, we can do as Andy taught us and turn these words into a PROPHETIC DECLARATION.

We can speak this Psalm to Covid-19 and every situation, declaring:-

“JESUS is God”

“He will be exalted among the nations”

“He will be exalted in the earth”

“Coronavirus, you cease in Jesus name! End your turmoil on the earth right now. You may be called ‘crown’ by men, but you are a usurper and you must bow the knee to Him who rightly wears the Crown of All Crowns! Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords!

3, Responding To One Another

1 John 4:19
We love because he first loved us.

This love is ‘agape‘ love – Divine not human.

This love is not in response to anything in the recipient that merits it — it is initiatory and unconditional.

It is His Nature – ‘God is love’    1 John 4:16

When we are filled with His love, we can love one another as He loves us – the ‘agape’ way.

This love fulfils ALL the commands of the Old Testament Law.

Jesus summed all the commandments in the Old Testament in just two.

“Love God and Love your neighbour”. (Matt 22:36-40)

As we have received – so we give!

4, He chose us before the foundation of the world!

John 15:16
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.

Before He created anything else, you were in his heart.

Knowing this gives us identity, security and peace.

Whichever sport we played as children, most of us will recall the feeling of anxiety as we waited among others to be chosen by one of the two team captains and the palpable relief when our name was called.

Relax! – Jesus has chosen you – He has called you by name.

A few years ago someone came to our home with a beautiful single rose. He said that God told him to buy the rose and to give it to Gill with these words:- “Gill, you are my first pick”

It made her feel very special and she will never forget it.

Remember – You too are God’s ‘first pick’ – chosen, overshadowed, surrounded and loved!

Extravagantly loved!

So go on! – share it with others , there is plenty to go around!
