See our top tips for making this work here…

Today we are continuing with our PRAYER theme -discovering what happened when Peter prayed!

Make it special: crouch down small, then jump up high as someone shouts: ‘Ready Steady Let’s Praise God!’

Worship: (5 mins) Let’s celebrate that Jesus is alive!

You could use these songs or any of your own favourites:

Intro: (10 mins)

Find out more about Dorcas!

Watch: Dorcas is alive! (3.5 mins)

Read:

The Toddler’s Bible p394

Acts9:36-42

Quick Unpack: (2 mins)

Nothing is too difficult for God!

Do you remember that Jesus died and came back to life again?

This is because God’s power is stronger than anything, even sickness and death!

When Peter prayed for Dorcas, God was listening and his power brought her back to life again!

SHOUT OUT: WHO LISTENSWHEN WE PRAY? GOD DOES!

Keep using the shout out with different voices, fast, slow, high, low, robot, squeaky… or make up  some actions.

Fun activities: (5-15mins)

Play:

Practice Kindness: play with any dolls, soft toys and small clothes, toy food… you may have. You could pretend to be kind Dorcas giving out the clothes or simply model kindness by looking after ‘baby’ or a favourite toy together. Show your child how to have gentle hands, to think of others, to pray for others… as you play.

Create:

Threading Fun! Dorcas was known for making and giving clothes to the poor.

•    Choose one of the shapes from the template. If you have a hole punch, make a few holes around the edges and use string/thread/ribbon to ‘sew’ in and out of these holes.

•    Or thread through a few of them to create a ‘washing line’ of clothes.

•    Or simply decorate and stick up!

•    Or use string and dried penne pasta/chunky beads for threading fun. You could pray for people as you thread on each one or simply chat about the story together.

•   Colouring sheets

Resources: pdf template, pens, paper/card, scissors, string/thread/ribbon, hole punch, penne pasta/beads

Prayer Time:

•    SHOUTOUT: WHO LISTENS WHEN WE PRAY? GOD DOES!

•    Nothing is too difficult for God! His power is stronger than anything! Shout out praises to God together: ‘God, you are great! You are strong! You are good! Jesus we love you!’ You could stomp around the room as you do this or jump up and down. Don’t forget to listen to what Jesus says back!

We’d love to hear from you. Show us your threading. What did you shout out to God today?

My First Message Bible p333

In the bible: Acts3:1-10

Quick Unpack: (2 mins)

WOW! What did Peter and John do? What happened to the man who couldn’t walk?

God loves to show his love and power to help others.

We can pray and see his power and goodness at work; for others and ourselves!

SHOUT OUT: WHO CAN HEAL? JESUS CAN!

Keep using the shout out with different voices, fast, slow, high, low, robot, squeaky… or make up  some actions.

Fun activities: (5-15mins)

Play:

Up and Down: play a fun game where you all stand up or sit down as you call out different parts of the story:

the lame man couldn’t walk (sit down)

Peter and John prayed for him and he was healed (stand up)

the lame man sat at the gate everyday (sit down)

Jesus’ power healed his legs (stand up)

the man sat on his mat and asked for money (sit down)

the man leapt up and praised God (stand up)…

Play the story: Use any small world people or soft toys you may have to play the story and wonder about it together: I wonder how the man felt sitting at the gate? I wonder how his first steps felt. I wonder what other people thought. I wonder where we are in the story…

Create:

•    Finger Puppet: Use the template. Decorate the lame man figure with pens or stick on material/paper pieces. Cut him out including the two circles. Put fingers through these holes to make the lame man walk, leap and praise God!

•    Lame Man’s Legs! Decorate the ‘Praising God’ man. Cut out the two strips for his legs and fold them concertina-style. Attach to make his legs walk, leap and praise God!

•   Activity sheets

Resources: pdf template, pens, paper/card, scissors, material, paper pieces

Prayer Time:

•    SHOUTOUT: WHO CAN HEAL? JESUS CAN!

•    Power to heal! Jesus wants to heal us too, we can pray for each other. If anyone is feeling ill or has pain encourage them to get ready to be prayed for! Show your child how to pray: invite Holy Spirit to come, speak healing to the body part: ‘Away, go in Jesus’ name!’, listen to Holy Spirit and wait… Check yourselves: how are they feeling now? Any better? Be ready to pray again. Share what’s happening and let us know your testimonies!

We’d love to hear from you. Show us your lame man finger puppets. Who was healed today? Which is your favourite worship song?

Prayer part 2: Hannah Prays for a Baby

See our top tips for making this work here…

Today we are discovering more in our new theme on Prayer: Chatting to God!

Make it special: Whisper a message around your family!

Worship: (5 mins) Let’s celebrate that Daddy God is with us now!

Jesus Calling Bible p92

Quick Unpack: (2 mins)

Hannah was so sad that she didn’t have a baby. She’d been waiting for a long long time.

She told God how she felt and asked for his help. God heard her prayer and answered her!

Her baby was called Samuel.

As he grew up he did amazing things for God, and helped many people to know him and be his friends.

We can chat to Daddy God about anything. We can tell him how we feel and what we are doing. He alwayshears us and knows the best way to answer our prayers.

I wonder what prayers you’ve seen answered in your family…

SHOUT OUT: WHO CAN CHATTO DADDY GOD? I CAN!

Keep using the shout out with different voices, fast, slow, high, low, robot, squeaky… or make up  some actions.

Fun activities: (5-15mins)

Create:

•   Colouring sheets

•    Prayer Telephone: Cut out the labels on the template, colour in and stick onto paper cups. Attach string or ribbon through the ends of the cups and have fun chatting to God and each other!

•    Praying hands craft: Decorate Hannah and the hands on the template. Cut it all out. Stick the hands onto the back of the piece with Hannah on, so that when you fold them in you can see the hands at the front like ‘praying hands’.

Resources: pdf template, pens, paper/card, scissors, glue

Prayer Time:

•    SHOUTOUT: WHO CAN CHAT TO DADDY GOD? I CAN!

•   Keep Chatting to God! Help your child to continue to tell God about their day such as what they played, what they ate, how they feel, what colour they like, who their friends are, what they can see out the window… You could make it into a fun game where you take it in turns to share different things as you kick or roll a ball back and forth!

We’d love to hear from you. Show us your crafts. What prayers have you seen answered?

Your rod and your shepherd’s staff comfort me. (pretend to hold staff in hand)

You pour oil of blessing on my head; (mime pouring)

  • Today’s hero is Joseph! Even though some tough things happened to Joseph, he listened to God and stayed close to him.
  • God helped Joseph to understand dreams, even the king’s dream!
  • This meant he could help lots and lots of people, including his mean big brothers, when all their food ran out.
  • Joseph was able to love them and forgive them! WOW!
  • We can be heroes too and stay close to God.

QUICK UNPACK (2 MINS)

God’s people had been living in tents in the desert.
God wanted to give them their own land where they could build houses and grow food.
So Moses sent out twelve spies to see what it was like. Joshua and Caleb were two of those spies.
Joshua and Caleb trusted more in God and what he said than what they saw with their eyes.
They knew God was bigger and stronger than anything and that he wanted to give them a good place to live.
We can trust in God’s goodness too!

SHOUT OUT

Say this to your child: WHO CAN TRUST IN GOD?
Help your child to answer: I CAN!

Keep saying it with different voices; robot, squeaky, whisper, shout…

FUN ACTIVITIES (5-10 MINS)

Click here to download this week’s print-at-home resources.

Play: Hide and seek with your child or pretend to be Joshua and Caleb creeping around quietly!
Or play ‘I Spy something that’s blue… green… big… small’ make it relevant to your child’s development or use the activity sheet on the pdf template to help. Talk about looking for things like Josh and Caleb did.

Create: Use any play dough or lego bricks you may have to create some of the things that the spies found in the land: bunches of grapes, large cities with walls, tall people, other fruit and fields for growing food, mountains and sea… God had good things for his people. They needed to trust in him!

Colouring of the story

Sing: Any of these songs.
If you don’t know the tunes, just chant them together and have a go at the actions:

‘12 Men went to spy in Canaan’
12 Men went to spy in Canaan (mime looking far away, hand above eyes)
10 were scared, 2 trusted God (show 10 fingers & thumbs down, show 2 fingers and thumbs up)
What did they see when they spied in Canaan? (as for first line)
10 were scared, 2 trusted God (show 10 fingers & thumbs down, show 2 fingers and thumbs up)
Some saw giants tough and tall (flex arm muscles, stand tall)
Some saw grapes in clusters fall (mime eating grapes)

There’s nothing that he cannot do (clap, clap)
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty (flex muscles)
There’s nothing that he cannot do (clap, clap)
The mountains are his (make mountains with hands)
The rivers are his (wave hands like water flowing)
The stars are his handiwork too (make star shapes)
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty (flex muscles)
There’s nothing that he cannot do (clap, clap)

Resources: pdf template of activities, scissors, colouring pens, tape/glue, card/paper.

PRAYER TIME IDEAS (5 MINS)

  • SHOUT OUT: WHO CAN TRUST IN GOD? I CAN!
  • Try an Adventure Time: God is big and he is good. Get comfy and invite Holy Spirit to be with you. Say slowly, with pauses: ‘Imagine the wonderful world – the tall trees, the big blue sky, the deep green sea, the bright sun and white moon…’ Help your child to imagine and think about these things.  ‘God is bigger than all these things. He is so big! Can you see God – look at how big, good and kind he is. Wow! What can you see… or hear… or feel? God loves you very much. He loves to be with you.’  Pray for your child to begin to experience how big God is… Chat about what they experienced and validate their responses. You could jot down what was shared and thank God for being with you.

The story: Use any toy lions and mini people you may have to play out the story of Daniel in the den (or use any other toys and your imaginations!).  Who could be Daniel? What about the King? I wonder how Daniel felt in the den… How did God shut the lions’ mouths… Wow, Daniel loved to be with God!
Or pretend to be lions: call out different instructions to your family: roaring lions, hungry lions, sleeping lions, happy lions, slow lions, fast lions…

Create: a simple lion puppet using the template provided. Use a straw or piece of card if you don’t have a lolly stick.

Colouring of the story

PRAYER TIME (2 MINS)

  • SHOUT OUT: WHO LOVES TO BE WITH GOD?  I DO!
  • Experience God: you could put out your hands to receive from God, or hold your lion puppet, then pray for open hearts and say ‘let’s get ready to feel and know God with us now in our bodies, our heads, our feelings…’. Ask Holy Spirit to come with his love, joy, peace, goodness… Have faith and be confident to wait for him to come and enjoy God’s presence together!
  • Share what you are feeling or sensing to help your child begin to recognise God with them: For example: ‘Ooh I feel so much joy inside’, ‘my hands are tingling because God is here’, ‘I feel very happy or excited’, ‘I am thinking about Jesus’ love for me,’ ‘Thank you Holy Spirit for being with us’. Keep praying for your child to know and love being with God (valuing his presence), that they will want to be with him and see it as the most important thing as they grow up!
