“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life” – John 3:16 – NKJV
What a privilege! We get to experience LOVE in all its fullness. God willingly sacrificed His ONE and ONLY son on the cross so that we might be saved (‘saved’ is derived from ‘Sozo’, a Greek word meaning ‘to be restored to wholeness’).
STORIES OF LOVE
A WOMAN CAUGHT IN ADULTERY
Read: John 8:1-11
The scribes and pharisees bring a woman caught in adultery to Jesus to see if He would abide by the law which says, ‘stone her!’ but no, He did not. He instead showed her love, saying – “neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more” (v. 11 – NKJV).
JESUS COMES TO ZACCHAEUS’ HOUSE
Read: Luke 19: 1- 10
A chief tax collector who made his fortune by defrauding others is the centre of Pharisee complaints when Jesus asks to stay at his house. Jesus sees beyond Zacchaeus’ sins and brings salvation to his house, transforming him through love, so that Zachaeus promises to pay back four times as much as he had taken from people.
We see from these stories that God’s love is one which does not play by the rules; It is a love which hears what the crowd is saying but blatantly refuses to go by what they say; a love which sees our inadequacies yet overlooks them; a love which does not condemn; a love which exchanges weakness for strength; a love which shines so bright it dispels darkness; a love which gives freely without expecting to receive anything back; a love which knows no limits and no bounds, a love which transforms us from the inside so that we might bring transformation to others.
What an amazing love!
